APBP Conference Descriptions
(Wednesday, Nov. 14 - Friday, Nov. 16)
APBP’s 2nd Professional Development Seminar Series brings together leaders of the bicycle and pedestrian transportation profession for two days of networking, in-depth technical seminars, and study tours. Seminars include:
- Inside the Manuals , featuring speakers who are responsible for the Highways Capacity Manual, AASHTO Green Book, and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. This is an inside look at critical engineering manuals you should know and understand.
- Context Sensitive Design, how context sensitive design can benefit bicyclists and walkers, or not. Includes a four-hour interactive tour of context sensitivity for the bike/ped professional. Theory and philosophy of roadway design will be closely examined.
- Trail-Roadway Intersection Design, balancing safety and convenience for trail users and motorists. Designing and managing shared use paths is somewhat of an art, especially when it comes to intersections. Hear from the professionals what works and what doesn’t.
- Designing Sidewalks and Trails for Access, demystifying the Americans with Disabilities Act with a common sense approach to designing pedestrian environments that are truly accessible for all.
- Setting the Table for TEA-21, for the bicycle and pedestrian professional who wants to learn about the reauthorization of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century.
- Making Tucson #1, what will it take for Tucson to become the #1 bicycling city in the U.S.? What makes any city bikeable or walkable?
