Honors Jannie Cox

TUCSON, Ariz. – Richard DeBernardis, Founder & Executive Director of the Tour of the Tucson Mountains, announced that this year’s event is dedicated to Jannie Cox, 21-year supporter of all Perimeter Bicycling events and outstanding professional healthcare fundraiser, who will be honored at the Thursday, April 26th Dedication Dinner at McMahon’s Prime Steakhouse.

Jannie has been the CEO of Carondelet Foundation since 1987 and is also vice president of public policy for Carondelet Health Network, a member of the largest not for profit health system in the United States.  In addition, she is a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, a board member of Compass Bank, the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson and an honorary board member of the Community Food Bank and Tu Nidito Children & Family Services.

DeBernardis also announced that Holualoa Companies will be the event’s title sponsor for the second year in a row as part of a three-year commitment.

Town of Marana will be the presenting sponsor of the event, scheduled for Sunday, April 29th, which begins and ends at the Marana Town Hall on W. Civic Center Dr. off Barnett Rd.  Tour of the Tucson Mountains XXI main-event cyclists will ride 70 miles clockwise around the perimeter of the scenic Tucson Mountains, beginning at 6:30am. 27-mile cyclists will begin at 8:30am and kids and their families will ride 4 miles or ¼ mile in the Pizza Hut Kids & Family Fun Ride beginning at 10:30 am.

Proceeds from the event go to the Arizona Alumni Association, UPH Children’s Center at Kino campus, Pima Community College and TMC Foundation Children’s Fund.

The Tour, Southern Arizona’s premier springtime cycling event, will challenge 1,250 cyclists with the help of over 300 volunteers.  Over the past twenty years, the event has seen more than 16,000 cyclists who have raised nearly $237,000 for local beneficiaries.  This year’s event is also supported by 92.9 The Mountain, Citi Cards, Clif Bar, Fresh Express, Greater Arizona Bicycling Association, Metro Restaurants, Performance Bicycle Shop, Tucson Home Magazine, Trico Electric Cooperative and Wal-Mart.

Perimeter Bicycling also organizes Holualoa Companies El Tour de Phoenix presented by Pierson Construction Corporation, March 31st, Diamond Ventures El Tour 10K & 5K Run, September 16th at Continental Reserve, Cochise County Cycling Classic, October 13th and First Magnus El Tour de Tucson presented by Diamond Ventures, November 17th.

Applications can be found in Tail Winds, at local bicycle and running shops or online.  Packet pick-up and last-minute registration will be held at the Bike, Fitness & Health Expo at the TCC on Saturday, April 28th from 10:00am to 7:00pm.  Participants for the Pizza Hut Kids & Family Fun Ride can also register on event day.  For more information, call (520) 745-2033.
